| So
lets get started, but first lets see how Mr. Webster defines Racing. |
|
1 : to compete in a race
2 : to go or move at top speed or out of control
3
: to engage in a race with
4
a : to enter in a race b : to drive or ride at high speed c : to transport or
propel at maximum speed
As far as I can tell he hit racing right on the head. Yes, it is
to compete in a race, and it also is done at top speed, and the part about "out
of control" is a little unnerving, but true. As you become an experienced racer
most of your laps will be on the edge of the envelope, and to an extent "out of
control". But for now we are going to deal with the fundamentals of racing that
is very "controlled", and is not done at top speed.
First you must decide what goals you would like to set for yourself as a
racer. Are you looking for a way to spend your weekends with friends, and use
your time on the track to make you a better street rider. Or are you ready to
dedicate yourself "and your money" for a shot at becoming a Regional Champion,
National Champion and maybe someday a World Champion. This is the great thing
about road racing, you are able to compete on a level that you are comfortable
with, both in the amount of money you can afford to spend but also with the
talent you have as a racer. What ever the reason, you have picked a sport that
is second to none, and is sure to leave you with a feeling of accomplishment
that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
